Dhaka Int’l University Holds Workshop on Blended Learning

Live Correspondent: A day long workshop on “Blended Learning in Tertiary Education” has been done at Dhaka International University (DIU) on 17 October Monday at the Dr. M. I. Director, Research and Publication Cell; Prof. M Abdul Kuddus, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies; Prof. Dr. Shawkat Ara Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Law; Prof. Dr. ATM Mahbubur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering; all departmental heads and more than hundred twenty faculty members from all the departments were attending attended the workshop.

Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head, Quality Assurance Unity (QAU), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) was present at the workshop as chief guest while Prof. Dr. M Abul Kashem, Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist, QAU, UGC; Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, QA Expert, QAU, UGC and Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary, Vice-Chairman, Board of Trustees,

DIU were present as special guests. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serajul Islam Prodhan, Quality Assurance (QA) Expert and Director of IQAC, DIU presided over the programme as well as presented the achievements of IQAC at Dhaka International University while RaisuL Islam Sourav, Assistant Professor and Coordinator,

Department of Law and QA Specialist and Additional Director of IQAC, DIU emceed the programme. DIU Registrar Prof. M Rofiqul Islam greeted all for attending the workshop.

Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary presented his key not on Blended Learning in Tertiary Education. He said that modern universities must implement blended learning to accommodate huge number of upcoming students. Online learning, flipped classroom, one to one learning,

learning through video are the key elements to change the trends of traditional learning, he added. Students must learn beyond classroom, he urged. The DIU authority will provide full support to enhance the quality in tertiary education, Barrister Patwary promised.

Prof. Dr. M Abul Kashem delivered lecture on Factors Affecting Effective Teaching whereas Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed focused on Disruptive Innovation in Higher Education. He said to prepare graduates with practical knowledge and emphasized to cultivate creativity in higher education.

A skillful manpower with vision can change the nation, he added. Prof. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary told that the quality is a habit and we must foster that habit. He remared the quality assurance activities of DIU are satisfactory and the university must continue it with a holistic approach.

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established at DIU under the auspices of Higher Education Quality Enhancement project (HEQP) financed by the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh, World Bank and DIU and implemented by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.

The workshop is a continuation of this process. DIU is the first ever university among the second phase universities under HEQEP which had successfully finished the external peer review of the departments of Law, English and Computer Science and Engineering in last June.
