DU Live: The Dhaka University (DU) authority has congratulated the pioneer organizers of traditional Mongol Shovajatra on saturday. A festival entitled “Eso Gahi Mongoler Jaygan”, hailing the UNESCO’s recognition of Mongol Shovajatra, held at Bakul Tala on Fine Arts faculty premises on the DU campus.
The personality and institutions, who were involved in the inception of the Mongol Shovajatra, have been accorded reception at the function. Bangla Academy and the ministry of Cultural Affairs received special felicitation in this regard.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique presented mementos while President of Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad, noted artist Mustafa Monowar and Professor of Drawing and Painting department Rafiqun Nabi presented the shawls to the pioneers of the Shovajatra.
Mongal Shobhajatra, a ceremonial walk organised on the first morning of Bangla New Year, got recognition as an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO’S Inter-governmental Committee on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The students and teachers of Faculty of Fine Arts bring out the Mongol Shovajatra every year to celebrate the Bangla New Year.
