IU Live: Taking action over the first year admission test question paper leak, authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia has suspended five employees including three teachers, expelled a student and cancelled the admission of 140 other students.
The suspended teachers are Mizanur Rahman, associate professor and chairman and Nurul Islam, assistant professor, of department of Mathematics, and Altaf Hossain Russel, assistant professor and chairman of department of Statistics.
According to the decision taken by the IU authorities, Mizanur Rahman and Altaf Hossain Russel have been barred from participating in all academic activities for two years. A show cause notice was also issued against them.
The other two of the five suspended employees are third-class employees – Alauddin and Saiful Islam.
Moreover, Monojit Kumar, a student of Mathematics department, was also expelled from the university.
As per the decision of the authorities, a fresh admission test will now be held as the authorities cancelled the admission of 140 students in the examination.
The stern measures were taken on Monday at a syndicate meeting chaired by the university’s Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Rashid Ashkari.
SM Abdul Latif, acting registrar of IU, confirmed the matter to the media after the meeting.
The decisions were taken following probe report submitted by a three-member probe committee of IU on Saturday.
Proctor Mahbubar Rahman, one of the members of the committee, said that the authorities made the decision after the investigation report said that a teacher, an administrative officer and three employees were involved in the question paper leak for the first year admission test of F unit of the 2016-2017 session at the university.
Acting registrar Latif said that the President and Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League of IU unit Saiful Islam and Amit Kumar alleged in writing to the university authority about the question paper leak for the first year admission test of ‘F’ unit held in December, 2016.
The university authorities formed a three-member probe body headed by Professor Mustafa Kamal of Mathematics department to look into the allegation.
