Rajshahi Live: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam on Saturday said the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a decision of launching mid-day-meal programme at all primary schools for making schooling attractive to students and reducing dropouts.
He said the government has given highest priority to the primary education as it’s very important to make the nation free from the curse of illiteracy. Not only that, foundation of any higher education started from this level, he added.
The state minister made this observation while launching the mid-day-meal programme at Sardaha Government Primary School under Charghat upazila as chief guest.
Praising local initiatives to this effect, he urged all well off and
benevolent persons to come forward towards launching feeding programmes at other schools.
With School Managing Committee President Kazi Mahmudul Hassan in the
chair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Islam, Education Officer Meer Mamunur Rahman and assistant education officer Rozy Khandakar also spoke.
Shahriar Alam said improvement of both quality and quantity of primary
education could be vital means of enriching the list of skilled human
resources besides attaining sustainable development goals.
All officials concerned, teachers, parents and other stakeholders should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity, honesty and patriotic zeal as the present government is pledged bound to quality development of the primary education.
He listed the government’s manifold development activities including
nationalization of huge non-government primary schools, development of school infrastructure, ensuring supply of safe drinking water, introduction of uniform education and stipends for disadvantaged children.
Distribution of textbooks to primary school students on the first day of the year and introduction of e-book were among the development activities.
