CMC lecturer injured by weapons

Chittagong Live: A lecturer at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) was injured after he was hacked at his home early on Monday.

Dr Tareq Shams, 37, lives in Rangipara area of Halishahar in the port city.

He is the son of Chittagong’s noted physician Shamsul Alam and Anwara Alam, writer and principal of Agrabad Mohila College.

The victim was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and doctors said he was out of danger.

Arefin Jewel, additional deputy commissioner (west) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, told Tareq was attacked when he woke up and opened the door at dawn after hearing a knock.

“The attackers, who indiscriminately hit him with sharp weapons, could not be identified but we are looking into why the doctor was attacked,” he said.
